Casino House Rules and the Poker Player
It is not enough for a poker player to know the rules of the game. There are other regulations and customs that one should become familiar with as well. Some rules on proper table civilities will be necessary if you want to have a pleasant poker game. Another important set of rules each poker player should know are the casino house rules.
Other than keeping you away from trouble, following the casino house rules keeps you away from being thrown out the door. Since each casino has its own set of house rules, every poker player should at least take a minute or two to know what these are. There is definitely no excuse for breaking a casino house rule even if you are the best poker player on the floor.
One important casino house rule is to check in your firearm if you have one. This rule concerns the safety of everyone in a casino. If ever you bring a firearm with you, remember to check it in at the door.
Once you're on the floor and you want to take a smoking break be careful not to do it in the no smoking section. Some casinos have it and it will be a violation of the casino house rules to smoke in these areas. The most that will happen is that a casino employee will ask you to move to the smoking area. Incidentally, some casinos even have signs that say 'no spitting' and others will have one that says 'no farting'.
With regards to the game of poker, one casino house rule is don't put anything on the table except your playing cards. There are casinos that will at least allow players to place their drinks or even their chips on the table. If a casino allows you to do that, make sure that you don't make a mess by spilling anything on the poker table.
Incidentally, when you hold your cards, you should make sure that their in plain view. You might be accused of cheating if you sneak them or hide them away even for just a short moment. Another related rule is don't touch another player's chips or cards. These are just measures to prevent cheating at a poker table.
It is important to take note that some casinos don't allow players to talk or send text messages on their phones while playing poker. You don't want someone tipping off the other players about what move to make.
